Questions and answers about the agreement with Wish
Does this apply to all shipments?
No, this only applies to shipments from the e-commerce platform Wish with a maximum value of SEK 1,600 and where the shipment does not contain a so-called restricted product. See the Swedish Customs' website for more information about such goods.
At present, PostNord only has agreements with the e-commerce platform Wish. PostNord welcomes more e-commerce players joining this solution.
What happens if I order for more than SEK 1,600?
For consignments with a value exceeding SEK 1,600, a customs fee must also be paid and a customs declaration must be prepared at the same time on arrival in Sweden. In order for you to receive your goods, you need to pay in VAT and customs, and pay a handling fee of SEK 125 including VAT. PostNord's agreement with Wish does not cover orders made with a value of more than SEK 1,600.
What happens if I order supplements or other restricted items?
In the agreement that PostNord has entered into with Wish, goods with special rules are excluded and they are handled in accordance with the ordinary regulations, which means that VAT, customs and handling fees must be paid when the item arrives in Sweden before the item can be delivered. Why have you chosen to only sign an agreement with Wish?
We have held talks with several international e-commerce players, but in the first stage, only agreements have been signed with Wish. Now the solution is in place and we hope that many more players will show interest in using this solution. It would promote international e-commerce, reduce the hassle that the regular solution entails and make it easier for the state to receive statutory VAT.
Who pays the VAT?
With the new solution, a consumer who buys at Wish will pay VAT directly in the online store and where the consumer appoints PostNord as a direct customs representative. Wish deposits this money and then transfers it to PostNord, which in turn pays in to the Swedish Customs.
What does the solution look like technically?
Wish puts a special label on the packages that are scanned on arrival in Sweden. Wish also sends electronic advance information, so-called EDI, which enables PostNord to verify that VAT has been paid and that the shipment is approved for automatic handling. When the items arrive in Sweden, the label is scanned and thus items with prepaid VAT can be declared VAT directly with the help of the EDI information. After approved customs clearance by the Swedish Customs, they will be delivered directly to home or to one of PostNord's delivery points, depending on which additional service applies or if the item could not be delivered to the mailbox.
How is the delivery time affected?
Shipments will be handled much faster because electronic information means that the VAT return can be drawn up faster. In addition, PostNord does not have to wait for payment of VAT and handling fee before delivery can take place.
Will PostNord charge a fee for this new handling?
Provided that the product value is less than SEK 1,600 and does not contain goods with special rules, no fees from PostNord will be added when shopping from Wish.
Does PostNord charge any fee at all for this handling?
Yes, PostNord receives compensation from Wish for this handling as a compensation for the costs that the handling entails for PostNord. The size of the fee is part of a business deal.
Why do I receive a notification to pay VAT on an item ordered from Wish, even though I have already paid VAT to Wish?
Our agreement with Wish states that shipments where VAT has already been paid must be provided with a special label that allows PostNord to see at the first scan that VAT has already been paid. If this label is missing, PostNord cannot ensure that VAT has been paid and then, according to directives from the Swedish Customs, we must ensure that VAT is paid before the item can be delivered, which means that a notification is sent out. Unfortunately, not all Wish's sellers have implemented the system, which means that some shipments arrive in Sweden without this label, despite the fact that VAT has been deducted at the time of purchase.
