Dimensional weight

Large but lightweight items are charged by volume.

Because of this, we convert volume to weight by equating each cubic meter to 280 kg. As a service agreement customer or one paying for freight via Skicka Direkt, you pay the higher figure – actual weight or weight by volume – which is standard industry practice. Sometimes, weight by volume is also known as “volumetric weight”.

In the following four instances, we charge for the higher of actual weight or weight by volume:

  • Domestic parcel services for service agreement customers or purchases via Skicka Direkt
  • International Parcel for service agreement customers or purchases via Skicka Direkt.
  • PostNord Pallet, only available for service agreement customers.
  • International Express services.

Example: A domestic parcel measuring 0.5 × 0.5 × 0.5 m has a volume of 0.125 m³. To calculate the weight by volume, the volume is multiplied by 280 kg (0.125 × 280, which is equal to 35 kg). If the actual weight of the parcel in this example were to be 18 kg, you would pay the shipping price for 35 kg (i.e., the highest of actual weight or weight by volume).
