The E-barometern

PostNord follows the development of Swedish e-commerce in collaboration with Svensk Digital Handel and HUI Research. The results are presented every quarter in the E-barometern report.

E-barometern Annual Report 2021

The E-barometern report is published once a quarter and is based on five consumer surveys and one business survey. In this report e-commerce is defined as internet sales of goods delivered home, to a delivery service point or picked up in a store, a warehouse, or any point of delivery by the consumer.

Some relevant figures from the report

  • E-commerce grew by 20 percent in 2021.
  • The growth rate shifted between quarters. In the first quarter of 2021 growth was 53 percent whereas growth was negative in the fourth quarter, -1.2 percent.
  • Consumer goods grew most online (35%), followed by furniture and interior design (27%) and home electronics (23%).
  • Almost half of consumers (45%) have bought goods second-hand online in 2021. Most have bought used furniture or interior design products, followed by clothing and footwear as well as children's items and toys.
  • 66 percent was able to choose the delivery method for their last delivery. The corresponding figure the preview year was 61 per cent and 43 per cent in 2017.
