Welcome approval of Swedish-Danish postal merger

The EU Commission today approved the merger between Posten AB and Post Danmark A/S.

- We are very pleased that the EU Commission approved the merger between Posten AB and Post Danmark A/S so rapidly.  This means that the work to build the new group can enter its final phase, says Lars G Nordström, Posten's President and Group CEO.

One prerequisite for EU Commission approval was that Posten AB and Post Danmark A/S reduce their market share on the Danish business parcel market.

- We will now start working towards compliance with the EU Commission's terms. Our customers in Denmark will have the same conditions and service as they have today, says Lars G Nordström.

The letter of intent for the merger between Posten and Post Danmark was signed April 1, 2008. On February 2, 2009, the final agreement was signed by the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and the Danish Ministry of Transport.

- The new group will become even more competitive in meeting the increasing challenges on the communications and logistics markets.  We are ensuring that we are well-positioned to maintain a first-class, competitive messaging and parcel service in both countries while at the same time strengthening our position in the rest of the Nordic region, says Lars G Nordström.
