Posten achieves world-class delivery performance

Posten, Sweden's postal service, is breaking on-time delivery performance records. Every day it handles over 20 million mailpieces. In 2004, 96.4 percent of domestic letter mail was delivered on time the following day - a 0.3 percentage point improvement year over year. This score puts Posten's atop the world rankings.

"Sweden's postal service has achieved a record delivery performance score for overnight-committed mail, despite serving a far more geographically challenging market than many of its competitors in other countries," commented Erik Olsson, President and CEO of Posten. 

A country-by-country comparison has once again found that Posten boasts world-class on-time delivery performance when it comes to overnight-committed domestic mail. Posten commissioned the independent delivery performance study from IBM Business Consulting Services. In 2004 the company dropped off over 150,000 handwritten and machine-typed letters at partner-operated retail outlets, postal centers and in street collection boxes. Identical studies are conducted by national postal operators worldwide. 

Posten's high delivery performance score can be compared with that of Finland (95.4%), Germany (95.3%), Denmark (95.2%), UK (92%) and Norway (89.6%). 

The National Post and Telecom Agency, PTS, demands that Posten achieve 85 percent on-time delivery for overnight-committed mail. 

Parcel delivery performance trending higher 

Posten is also achieving world-class on-time delivery performance when it comes to domestic parcel delivery. In 2004, 97.8 percent of all DPD Företagspaket 16.00 parcels were delivered on time, a 0.1 percentage point improvement.
